Morale. Morale can take a dive at this time of the school year. Of course that can depend on a number of factors such as school leadership, students, curriculum, weather, and the list goes on. The reality is that many teachers, students, and administrators are tired and burned-out. With the pressures of long and mundane testing and the energy of warming weather and flowering trees, school days can be full of excitement, stress, and a range of conflicting emotions.
This is the time of year that I say just get up and dance. I know this sounds a bit crazy, but doing something unexpected can break the stale cycle that can exist. As a brief energizer, when energy seems to be lacking, or an energy releaser, when there tends to be too much energy, having students take a moment to get up and bust a move can make a big difference. It not only releases the tension, it can create a sense of community, especially if the teacher takes a moment to do the same.
